Immune Health During Back-to-School Season

Beautiful young parents and their daughter are having common cold, wiping noses and looking at camera while lying on bed

It’s back to school season…hurray!  All parents are letting out an audible sigh of relief now because planning playdates, vacations, camps, etc. is over with the kids back in the classrooms.  But this also means they are back to germ city.  How many parents do you know with a kid already home sick…and it’s only the first week?!  So how do you keep yourself healthy with all the germs that kids bring home?

Having a healthy immune system means your body is defended against illness or infection.  Cells work together to combat any foreign pathogen that comes in contact with your body.  So what can you do to make sure that your immune system is in tip-top shape?

  1. Drink plenty of water- Water helps your body produce Lymph, which your immune system uses to circulate white blood cells and nutrients to the tissues in the body. It also helps to keep the body clear of toxins.
  2. Eat a balanced diet- Sugar-laden foods and those loaded in saturated fat only impede your immune system from working correctly. Load up on fruits, vegetables and whole grains to keep your body going.
  3. Get moving- Exercise helps your body rid itself of unwanted bacteria and helps increase the circulation of antibodies or white blood cells to help stave off infection.
  4. Add some supplements-Immune-boosting supplements can help the battle to keep you healthy. Aloe vera contains the polysaccharide called Acemannan that has many immune health benefits.  You can take 2 to 4 oz daily of Lily of the Desert Aloe vera juice or gel to help support your healthy immune system.  It’s great to add to your smoothie or juice.
  5. Wash your hands and get some rest- These may seem like the obvious, but they are something people often forget to do.  But you are always telling your kids to wash their hands and go to bed, so make sure you do the same!

All these steps can only help you to stay healthy during this time of sneezing, wheezing and coughing.   Good luck out there!

Aloe Vera:Safe Alternative for Your Occasional Heartburn

StomachInZinnias-Safe sm

Let’s face it: dealing with occasional heartburn stinks.  Whether it happens when you eat certain foods or it just comes up out of the blue, you are feeling the burn and want it to go away.  The key to helping ease your occasional heartburn starts in the stomach.  The health of your gut is vital to helping you stay healthy…period.  So what can you do to help?

A common practice is to use a proton pump inhibitor to stop acid production altogether, but recent studies have shown that these could lead to future heart attacks.  Yikes.  Who wants that to happen?  Aloe vera has been known for thousands of years as a digestive aide.  Our Aloe Herbal Stomach Formula contains our own aloe mixed with a variety of trusted digestive herbs like chamomile, ginger root, slippery elm and fennel seed.  This wondrous combination helps balance your stomach acid naturally, not stop its production.   You will benefit from healthy digestion and that will help your entire body stay happy and healthy.  Not a bad tradeoff, huh?

Kim McClure – Sales & Marketing

Any company would say that it is a wonderful opportunity to make a product based solely on customer comments and recommendations, and that is exactly what happened with our newest product, Aloe Mix n’ Go™.

For over 40 years we have been the trusted resource for quality Aloe vera products that deliver benefits like healthy digestion, immune support, detoxification, antioxidant support, skin health, and even support of healthy muscle and joint function. Our customers use our aloe products because they know they are receiving these health benefits in an optimal way with the addition of Aloesorb™, our patent-pending delivery system of high molecular weight aloe polysaccharides (also known as the most beneficial part of the aloe plant). But we heard from so many of you that you could not easily travel with our aloe products that you use on a daily basis. Thus, Aloe Mix n’ Go™ was created.

Each packet of Aloe Mix n’ Go™ contains a powdered mix that is equal to 4 ounces of our Aloe vera juices or gels. With the help of Aloesorb™, we are able to deliver the great health benefits you have come to expect from our products. Just add one packet of our Aloe Mix n’ Go™ to a bottle or tall glass of water, then mix and go! Wherever there’s water, you can get your daily dose of aloe in the most convenient way. Imagine being able to take your aloe to the office, gym, and especially when you travel! And, there are 4 delicious flavors to choose from: Original (aloe), Lemonade, Pomegranate and Strawberry-Kiwi.

We are currently in the process of getting Aloe Mix n’ Go™ rolled out across the U.S. Over the next few months you should be able to find it in the water aisles of your local health food and grocery stores. If you don’t see it, talk to your neighborhood store and tell them you’d like to try Lily of the Desert’s new, super convenient powdered aloe product.

Give Me Something Good To Eat

I know it seems impossible, but any arts-and-craft store employee or discount store weekly ad will tell you that the holiday season is indeed nigh upon us. It’s a phenomenon that happens every year, and yet it doesn’t cease to amaze me. Though to be fair, I always look forward to it. Why? Because while the term “holiday season” can mean different things to different people — scary costumes, harvest-themed centerpieces, ugly sweaters — when I really get down to it, to me it means good food. (And if I’m lucky, lots of it.)

Because I’m not always the superwoman I sometimes imagine myself to be, this can become a season of indulgence. And between that and making travel plans, stuffing this and spooking that, it can also be one of the busiest times of the year. Unfortunately the combination of these two factors could translate into a less-than-ideal diet plan for weeks on end.

Thank goodness there are ways to combat sluggish tummies by using natural, trusted ingredients. At Lily, we have crafted a unique Stomach Formula whose organic herbal blend includes peppermint leaf, chamomile leaf, borage leaf, marshmallow and ginger root, pau d’arco bark, blessed thistle herb, slippery elm bark and fennel seed. This formula works with your own stomach acid to help support the balance of your pH levels, and also helps the nutrients from your food to be more easily absorbed. That means that taking 2 ounces of our Stomach Formula 15-30 minutes before a meal could be your saving grace when Aunt Edna presses you to eat a third helping of her spicy bacon and brussel sprout hash. (No wonder you’re her favorite.)

Aloe 101: Back to Basics

No matter how old I get, no matter how long it’s been since I stepped foot into a classroom, this time of year will always remind me of how I felt on each First Day of School I ever had. New books, new friends, new teachers … it’s a unique combination of nerves and excitement that never quite goes away.

In honor of the first few weeks of classes, we’re getting back to the basics of aloe vera. After all, just because we’re not in school anymore doesn’t mean we should stop learning, and the aloe plant continues to be a source of fascination to us. Don’t worry — there won’t be a pop quiz later. (But knowing this stuff could definitely help you get to the head of your health class…)

Fun Facts About Aloe Vera:

·         There are over 500 species of aloe throughout the world. Lily of the Desert uses barbadensis Miller, which has been clinically shown to have the most nutrients.

·         Aloe vera is made up of 99.5% water, but the .5% solid portions are known to have the most active nutrients.

·         Aloe vera was depicted on 4,000 year old Sumerian clay tablets as having digestive benefits.

·         It is said that Alexander the Great once conquered the Island Socotra in order to have access to its precious aloe resources.

·         Aloe was used to heal wounds of both humans and livestock throughout Africa.

·         Aloe contains over 200 biologically active components including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to keep you healthy.

·         In addition to the above, aloe is made up of large-chain molecules called polysaccharides, the driving force behind distribution of nutrients through the body.

It goes without saying, at Lily of the Desert aloe polysaccharides are one of our favorite subjects because they are what make our products so unique. For more information about polysaccharides, head over to a new website we just launched: www.aloeamplified.com. It answers all your questions about how Lily of the Desert uses them to amplify the natural benefits of our aloe vera products. Consider it your extra credit assignment.

Class dismissed!

 Aloe Fact # 1

So Long to the Lazy Days of Summer

We look forward to this time of year with equal parts delight and dismay: it symbolically stands for the end of summer and return of sweater weather … and also for the end of summer and return (for some) to a more stringent daily routine. Oh, if only we could live in the flower-picking, firefly-catching, summer gardening ether year-round!

Luckily, we have one last saving respite: Labor Day Weekend. This is a day that was created in 1882 with industrious people like you in mind — a day that honors the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of America. This weekend, people all over the U.S. will be getting outside to barbecue and play in the lovely sunshine before autumn moves in. We’ll be throwing down on grills and beach towels like nobody’s business.

However you plan to honor Labor Day this year, celebrate the end of summer with a recipe that embodies this season — Lily of the Desert’s fresh watermelon lemonade. Aside from freshly squeezed citrus and summertime’s most classic mouthwatering melon, it also uses our aloe vera juice, which is packed with over 200 beneficial vitamins, enzymes, and amino acids, and is amplified with our all-aloe, health-boosting enhancement, Aloesorb™. (Hey, after all the chili dogs you’re going to eat this weekend, your body’s going to need all the love it can get!)

This recipe will serve 4:

  • 3 cups cubed seedless watermelon
  • zest of one lemon
  • ¾ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup organic honey
  • 8 Tbs Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Juice
  • 1 ½ cup cold water

Blend the watermelon until smooth; strain through a fine sieve (this takes a few minutes, but it’s worth it!).  Mix all ingredients together and serve over ice.

Welcome to Aloe Today

Welcome to Lily of the Desert’s ‘Aloe Today,’ where we will be sharing great tidbits like recipes and tips using our very own aloe products, while also keeping you up to date on what’s going on in the world of aloe vera. Each week we will feature a variety of ways on how aloe vera can be a beneficial addition to your everyday routine. Our goal is to share with you how to get the most benefit out of our aloe products.

So stay tuned … on Friday we’ve got a delicious summer drink for you that just happens to have been inspired by, none other than, our wonderful fans and followers!
